Privacy Policy

The short version: TileMyMac moves your windows around and never looks inside them. There's no account, and the app only goes online to check your license and to see if there's an update.

Who we are

TileMyMac is made by an independent developer, nerdynikhil. In this policy, "we" means TileMyMac and its maker. Questions about your data? Email support@tilemymac.app.

The TileMyMac app

What stays on your Mac

  • TileMyMac uses macOS's Accessibility permission to see where your windows are and to move and resize them. It never reads, records or sends what's inside your windows: no text, no screenshots, no keystrokes.
  • Your settings and window layout are saved on your Mac only.
  • Your license key is kept in your Mac's Keychain.
  • The app has no analytics, no tracking and no crash reporting service.

When the app goes online

The app connects to the internet for two things only:

  • Checking your license. When you enter your key, and then about once a day, the app sends your license key and a name for this Mac (its name from System Settings › General › About, plus the model, e.g. "Studio MacBook (MacBookPro18,3)") to our payment provider, Dodo Payments. The name is there so you can tell your Macs apart when you move your license. If you're offline, the app keeps working, and checks again when you're back online, for up to 14 days.
  • Looking for updates. About once a day, the app reads a public list of versions from tilemymac.app/releases.json. Nothing about you or your Mac is sent with it, but like any web request, our host sees your IP address.

Choosing Check for Updates… opens our website in your browser, with your app version in the address.

Buying TileMyMac

Dodo Payments sells TileMyMac on our behalf as the merchant of record. They handle your payment, taxes and receipts, and send your license key by email. We never see your card details. From Dodo we receive your name, email address, country, what you bought and your license key, so we can help with support and refunds. Dodo's own privacy policy covers how they handle your data.

This website

We use a few analytics tools to understand how people use tilemymac.app and to make it better:

  • PostHog: page views and clicks. It's set up without cookies, so you count as a new visitor on every visit, and it respects Do Not Track.
  • Vercel Analytics: page views and referrers, without cookies.
  • DataFast: page views, referrers and rough location. It sets a first-party cookie to count unique visitors.
  • Microsoft Clarity, on larger desktop screens only: heatmaps and session replays of how the page is used. Clarity masks the text you type and may set cookies.

Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser. We don't use advertising cookies, we don't sell your data and we don't share it for advertising. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs.

Emails

If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you. We don't send marketing emails.

How long we keep it

We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license exists, and as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. Support emails are kept while they're useful for helping you. Analytics data is kept by each tool for its standard period.

Your choices

  • You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it. Email support@tilemymac.app.
  • You can turn off TileMyMac's Accessibility access anytime in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
  • Content blockers and your browser's Do Not Track setting stop most of the website analytics.

Children

TileMyMac isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. Big changes will be mentioned in the release notes at /updates.
